The invidious WOT
Liberals resent and reject the War on Terror (WOT) label used by the Bush administration to describe the conflict now ongoing in the Middle East and elsewhere. I think they are dead wrong. Bush had it right when he informed the nation after 9/11 that we were involved in a new war that was atypical and would last for a long time, maybe several generations. The City Journal, a really valuable non political news journal, has published an alarming article by John Robb which describes exactly what Bush meant by his description of the WOT as "atypical" and lasting a long time. In this article Robb describes the current vulnerability of our cities to terrorists and explains the positively horrendous potential of the germ warfare weapons available to terrorists via the internet. It's not as though we don't have enough on our plate with the war in Iraq and the threat of radical Islamists around the world, Robb points out the capacity of any dedicated terrorist group to wreak havoc in advanced societies today by utilizing the readily available and accessable knowledge on how to create deadly viruses and transmit them to large populations overnight. This article can be found here and it is well worth reading the whole thing.
